Justine Haupt

Justine Haupt is a quantum optics and astronomy researcher, roboticist, and open-source developer. She's currently the PI for an experiment entitled "Free Space Optical Link for Entangled Photon Distribution Over Long Distances" and an ongoing contributor to a quantum optical interferometry experiment for astrometry. She's a past contributor to a 4-dish 21cm cosmology demonstrator radio telescope, and made significant contributions to the sensor and commissioning camera development effort for the Vera Rubin Observatory (LSST). She's additionally contributed to development of a CdZnTe gamma ray imaging detector, and has developed several pure-sine commutation brushless motor controllers. Her inventions include a technique for monitoring position and condition of electric machines by means of RF signal injection, and the BlimpDrive; a novel multi-motor electric propulsion system for paragliding. In addition to her work at BNL, Justine serves as the Research Director of Custer Observatory in Southold, NY, and is actively engaged in astronomy and STEM outreach. She's the director of Sky's Edge, an open source technology development company, and was named the 2014 Rising Engineering Star by Mouser Electronics and Design News Magazine.
